Green is the new black.

2009 June 17

What's NOT good that is green???Not in the sense that green is a trend, rather green is the new staple. Green technology, green living, all things green are good. Money, trees… amongst other greeneries.

A green lifestyle represents frugality at its finest. Being conscious of every piece of paper you use, being careful not to waste water, and turning off the lights when you leave a room are just a few ways to save money and the environment. Living green goes hand in hand with saving money. The fact that we are in an economic recession is a blessing. It is forcing us to examine our lifestyle and patterns of behavior. Gone are the days of excess. We have no use for Hummers, two dozen Krispy Kreme donuts and Venti Caramel Frappuchinos. Taking 45 minute showers are really pointless… take a bath instead! It’s much more relaxing, and you can use fabulous sea salts.

Green living is a staple for most conscious consumers.  It’s having thought behind the purchasing decisions you make. It’s taking the time to take care of what matters: your home, your body, your environment.

If only GM would realize this. If GM realized that Green is the new black, they would start making green cars. They would stop paying private lawyers to defend their stubborn defiance against a public outcry for an increase in production of fuel efficient cars. They would invest in engineers, researchers, and designers who could implement solar roof panels and electric batteries to make solar/electric hybrid cars. They would build factories and hire tens of thousands of Americans to build these cars. Save the economy, save the world. What is the economy based on? Money. And where does money come from? wellll…. lets … not  get into that right now… Point being, natural resources are always going to be at the root of buying, selling and trading. Preserve our natural resources. Use what Mother Earth has given us. Wind turbines and solar panels are the facilitators to harnessing what has been there since the dawn of time. We created this modern world, so surely we can create another.

Very true, but the fat cats on top of it all won’t even consider taking cuts off of their yearly bonuses to make significant alterations to their products. They pay themselves more when the economy is going down hill instead of ensuring a habitable earth for their descendants. Where’s the logic in that?
